Russia has blocked all adoptions to Sweden as a result of the latest legislative amendments aimed at banning all international adoptions of Russian children to countries that allow same-sex marriage, reported Kasparov.ru on 6 October, citing the website GayRussia.ru.

"It is terrible. We have 13 children in Russian children's homes who have been offered to parents in Sweden and who they have actually already met", said Jonas Friberg from the Swedish adoption agency Adoptioncentrum.

Representatives of the Russian authorities and the Swedish embassy met in Moscow to discuss the current legal situation regarding the adoption of Russian children.

According to Kasparov.ru, the Russian government is trying to sign agreements with individual countries in order to ensure that Russian children will not end up in families with LGBT parents.

President Vladimir Putin previously passed a law banning same-sex couples from adopting orphaned children.
