Russian rights defenders report threats and attacks on representatives of the 'White Ribbon' opposition movement.

More information concerning threats has arrived from Komsomolsk-on-Amur following the 19th October beating in Moscow of activist Igor Bakirov, a candidate in the weekend elections to the Opposition Coordination Council.

Radio Liberty reports that rights defender Elena Kaluzhskaya, who works at the Sakharov Center in Moscow, wrote on Facebook that unknown people came to the home of lawyer Elena Perfilyeva and began 'to break the door down.' Perfilyeva is known for organising a protest campaign against an oil refinery in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. According to Elena Perfilyeva, she has received repeated threats demanding that she cease her activities. Another civil activist, Aleksandr Shcherbakov, a friend of Igor Bakirov, has reported that on 20th October in Moscow a car attempted to run over two people who have come out against the polluting plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
