St. Petersburg Memorial Wins Prestigious International Award

Memorial’s Research and Information Centre in St. Petersburg has been awarded the international Freedom of Expression prize.

Founders of the prize at the international human rights organization Index on Censorship point to the impressive work done by St. Petersburg Memorial in gathering information about the victims of the Stalinist terror, and also in monitoring the current human rights situation in Russia.

The Freedom of Expression award is presented each year in several categories. Among the winners are the Azerbaijani journalist Idrak Abbasov (journalism), who has been persecuted for his professional work, the Bahrain Human Rights Center (advocacy), and also the Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat (art), Radio Liberty reports.
