No tangible progress has been made in establishing the identity of the murderer of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya, reports her son Ilya, according to Russian online news service Rosbalt

"We, the victims, do not know who the person who ordered the killing is. As far as we are concerned, the investigation has not progressed at all in that regard”, said Politkovsky.

He added that some progress had been made in the murder investigation. He is cited by Internet media sources as saying, “Of course, things are happening. Not very actively, but they are happening”.

The memory of the murdered journalist was honoured on 7 October at a rally in St. Petersburg. The rally passed without incident. According to the organisers, members of the “Democratic Petersburg” coalition went ahead with plans to name one of the streets in a new district of the northern capital after Politkovskaya.

Earlier, US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland announced that the State Department would continue to focus its attentions on the murder of Politkovskaya until justice was served.

"Six years ago, renowned journalist Anna Politkovskaya was shot and killed. With her death, the Russian people lost a voice that courageously sought to report the truth. Justice will not be done until all involved in her murder have been identified and prosecuted”, announced Nuland.

Politkovskaya was murdered at around 16:00 on 7 October 2006 as, having parked her car near her home on Lesnaya Street, she entered the lift to her apartment. The journalist was shot five times. Her killer then left the building through the main entrance, got into a car, model VAZ 21043, that was waiting for him by Novoslobodskaya metro station, and disappeared along with his accomplices.
