Novosibirsk Region Toughens Homophobic Law

Deputies of the Novosibirsk region legislative assembly have passed a law which increases fines for promoting homosexuality to minors. reports, citing RIA Novosti.

Now the fine for disseminating “homosexual propaganda” will be between 4,000 and 5,000 roubles for individuals, between 40,000 and 50,000 roubles for public officials, and between 400,000 and 500,000 roubles for legal persons. According to the law, “homosexual propaganda” is understood to be the holding of parades and demonstrations which popularise homosexuality in places where children may be present.

In April deputies in Novosibirsk region passed a law which stipulated a fine of 1,000-3,000 roubles for individuals, 3,000-5,000 roubles for public officials and 10,000-50,000 roubles for legal persons for “homosexual propaganda.”

Similar laws have already been passed by deputies in St. Petersburg and Arkhangelsk region.
