![]() Source: HRO.org (info) The Ministry of Justice in the Komi Republic has completed its investigation into the Komi Memorial Human Rights Commission. The Ministry's specialists came to the conclusion that the Komi organization does not engage in political activity and will not be included in the register of “foreign agents”. The NGO’s chair, Igor Sazhin, said that in terms of the law, members of the organization will feel more at ease, but he admitted that provocations against Memorial were likely to continue. As noted in the Ministry of Justice’s report, the inspection was carried out by two of the Ministry’s specialists, Margarita Volkova and Natalya Leonova, who spent seven working days conducting the investigation. The experts came to the conclusion that the Komi Memorial Human Rights Commission does not engage in political activity, Sergei Smirnov, correspondent of 7x7 writes. "We only work on social problems. This is the precise and clear position the Ministry of Justice has taken in relation to our work. It is important for us that our activity is socially significant," Igor Sazhin, a human rights defender with the organization said. |
