A petition against the law on residence registration (‘propiska’) had gathered more than 100,000 signatures by the evening of Monday, 25 March. At the current time the initiative has collected on the website more than 102,000 signatures. On 23 February there had been 20,000 signatures.

At the beginning of 2013 President Vladimir Putin introduced to the State Duma bill No. 200753-6 that would establish criminal liability for violating registration rules. On 4 March Putin signed a decree on the rules for considering Internet initiatives. According to the decree, a nationwide initiative must gather at least 100,000 in order to be considered.
