Appeal to Medvedev not to Bring Forces into Moscow on the Day of the Rally, 24 December

Members of the Moscow intelligentsia have sent an open letter to President Dmitry Medvedev asking him not to bring security forces into Moscow on the day of the opposition rally, 24 December.

“We ask you to show respect for the capital’s population and not to bring additional police and military forces into Moscow on the day of the rally, 24 December. You must understand that brining forces into Moscow is an insult to Muscovites and itself results in a negative attitude to the actions of the government,” the authors write in the letter, a copy of which was published by

Rosbalt News Agency reports that signatories of the letter believe bringing forces into the city may “result in bloodshed”. Among those who signed the appeal are the actress Svetlana Nemolyaeva, television presenters Tatyana Lazareva and Mikhail Shats, economist Ivan Starikov, and businessman Aleksandr Gafin.
