![]() Source: HRO.org (info) The Supreme Court of Russia has dismissed an appeal by Pussy Riot member Ekaterina Samutsevich, who has been given a suspended sentence, against her conviction for alleged hooliganism in Christ the Saviour Cathedral, reports BaltInfo, citing RAPSI. According to a statement issued by the Court, on 11 October a supervisory appeal by Samutsevich and her lawyer, Nikolai Lyubchenko, were rejected. At the end of February 2012 the five girls came to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow and, wearing masks, performed a so-called punk prayer. A video of the performance was posted on the Internet and sparked considerable public controversy. Police detained three participants in the protest: Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samutsevich. All three were sentenced on 17 August last year at Moscow's Khamovnichesky district court to two years in a penal colony for hooliganism. On 10 October Moscow City Court suspended Samutsevich's sentence. |
