Maria Alekhina, convicted member of punk group, Pussy Riot, will remain in isolation in Perm region’s Penal Colony No. 28 for a further three months. According to the press service for Perm region’s Main Federal Prison Service Administration, the request came from Alekhina herself.

“A signed request was made to the penal colony governor to keep Alekhina in ‘a place of safety.’ As such, the young lady will remain there for a further 90 days,” Interfax were told at the regional office for the Main Federal Prison Service Administration.

More precisely, according to a relative of the band member, Alekhina and her lawyer made this request because Alekhina is concerned for her safety in her detachment.

According to Rosbalt meanwhile, on 4th March, Perm Regional Court will consider the complaint lodged by Alekhina’s defence regarding the refusal to allow her to postpone her prison term for childcare reasons.

A court in Berezniki denied defence applications to defer the sentence of convicted Pussy Riot group member, Maria Alekhina. Lawyers asked the court to release her until her 6-year-old child turns 14.

In late February 2012, five masked young ladies entered Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, running into the solea and pulpit, where entry is forbidden, and at the altar, carried out ‘punk prayer,’ “Virgin Mother, drive Putin away”. Video footage of the performance appeared on the internet and caused a huge public outcry. Three alleged participants in the action, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich, were arrested and, on 17th August, found guilty under Part 12, Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. They were each sentenced to two-years-imprisonment in a penal colony.

On 10th October, Moscow City Court suspended Yekaterina Samutsevich’s two-year sentence for hooliganism in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, and she was freed on probation.
