Radio Svoboda believes that ‘Khodorkovsky has been transferred to Germany’. At 18:40 on 20 December, editors of HRO.org received a message from Germany: ‘MBKh has landed in Berlin.’ According to information received by the editors of Spiegel Online at 18:00 on 20 December, Khodorkovsky was on the way to Berlin, where he was to meet his mother. He then intends, apparently, to travel to Switzerland. The German embassy swiftly presented Khodorkovsky with a Schengen visa so that he could fly to Germany. At 17:03 on 20 December, Reuters reported that ‘according to German police, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who has been pardoned after ten years’ imprisonment, is flying to Berlin…’ At 14:40 on 20 December 2013 radio station Echo of Moscow reported, citing the ITAR-TASS news agency, that ‘Mikhail Khodorkovsky, former head of YUKOS, has been freed from the penal colony.
