Activists and journalist detained in Moscow at protest against Sochi Olympics

On 5 February leftwing activists and a correspondent for who was filming the event were detained at a demonstration about the Sochi Olympics outside the building of the Olympic Committee in Moscow, reports, citing information from social networking sites.

The activists held up a banner reading ‘Sochi – Fiddling while Rome burns’ and set off flares.

As was reported, participants in the demonstration were detained not by police officers but by private security personnel. Some of those detained were taken to a police station in the Luzhniki district.

Later, those detained were released after they had been charged with violations under Article 20.2, Section 5, of the Administrative Code, OVD-Info reports.
