Moscow authorities permit rally in support of defendants in ‘Bolotnaya case’

Moscow city authorities have given permission for a rally to be held on the capital’s Suvorov Square in support of the defendants in the Bolotnaya case on 4 August, RIA Novosti reports, citing acting head of the city’s department of regional security, Aleksei Maiorov.

As Polit.ru points out, the rally for a permitted 500 people will take place on Suvorov Square from 16:00 until 18:00. 

On 6 May 2012 during the opposition’s March of Millions on Bolotnaya Square there were clashes between police and demonstrators as a result of which more than 30 police officers were injured and more than 400 protestors were arrested. 

The Investigative Committee opened an investigation into the events under Article 212 of the Criminal Code (Riot). Nearly 30 people have been charged with offences.
