The TV channel Kultura has censored the broadcast of a speech by director Kirill Serebrennikov at the Golden Mask award ceremony on 16 April. Kirill Serebrennikov, who received an award for the play The Scumbags (Otmorozki) based on the books of Zakhar Prilepin, published on Facebook the closing section of his speech that had not been broadcast: “I would like to dedicate this prize to all those people who are fighting in Russia for justice, who are doing this on the squares of our cities, who are serving terms in prison, who are on hunger strike …I am convinced that the Truth will always win out over lies, theft and obscurity.” [Read more]
