"Smolninsky district court has just upheld the guilty verdict against me for gay propaganda! It is now in force. An appeal against the law banning gay propaganda in Petersburg will now be taken to the European Court and the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation. To the Statutory Court even!" wrote Nikolai Alekseev on his Twitter account. As Rosbalt News Agency reports, on 12 April Nikolai Alekseev was detained at the entrance to the Smolny city government offices for holding a placard reading "Homosexuality is not a perversion.
