Moscow City Duma: The Law on Demonstrations Should be Tightened

Moscow City Duma is not preparing amendments to the Federal Law “On Assemblies, Rallies, Demonstrations, Processions and Picketing,” but considers changes to be necessary. 

According to RIA Novosti, this view was put forward by the chair of the City Council’s security commission, Inna Svyatenko. Earlier, media sources had cited a report by Moscow deputy mayor Petr Biriukov to mayor Sergei Sobyanin, which said the rallies on Pushkin Square on 5 March and on Novyi Arbat on 10 March had disrupted the work of public services and caused millions of roubles in losses to the city budget. In response, the Moscow City Hall is considering the possibility of reviewing the federal law on demonstrations with the aim of introducing amendments, reports Grani.ru. [Read more]
