An approved protest, called “For Your and Our Freedom”, has taken place in Ekaterinburg in support of Andrei Makarevich, whose concert in December was cancelled. The protesters also came to support Diana Arbenina, whose concert in Ekaterinburg was also cancelled. Protesters also expressed their support for the Bolotnaya case prisoners.

Some of the protesters marched from the metro “Ploshchad 1905” to “ Ploshchad Trud”, where the others waited for them. During the protest the participants handed around microphones and spoke in support of the musicians, in the intervals playing songs that included hits by Mashina Vremeni, or playing on the guitar.

All participants were asked to sign a letter addressed to Makarevich stating that Ekaterinburg residents support the musician, do not support the cancellation of his concert and are waiting for him to come to the city.

According to an announcement by the organisers on a social network page, the protest was also taking place in defence of the Constitution, in support of political prisoners and for freedom of creativity and expression. Apart from Makarevich the protesters voiced support for Diana Arbenina, whose concert was also cancelled in Ekaterinburg.

Makarevich’s concert with the Creole Tango Orchestra should have taken place on 13th December at the Kosmos cinema and concert theatre in Ekaterinburg. According to Zaks.ru, citing Interfax, the mayor of Ekaterinburg Evgeny Roizman has said that he regrets the concert’s cancellation and thinks it is unfair.
