Open Letter by Staff of the Kommersant Publishing House

On 13 December the chief editor of the journal Vlast, Maksim Kovalsky, was fired for publishing a photograph of a ballot paper with an obscene message to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. We, the journalists of Kommersant Publishing House, protest against this decision. 

It was not the journal, the editors or any of its authors who wrote the obscene text. This was a photograph showing actual behaviour of the electorate in the elections. Judging by the rally on Bolotnaya Square that drew several tens of thousands, such moods are sufficiently well represented in Russian society for the journal to inform readers about them. [Read more]
