Agora Human Rights Association, citing Yevgeny Ovchinnikov, deputy head of the major crimes division of the Investigative Committee for Chelyabinsk oblast, reports that a statement it has issued containing new facts about extortion in Kopeisk Colony No. 6 has been appended to the criminal investigation into events at the penal colony and is currently being examined by the Investigative Committee. Ovchinnikov noted that reports received from Agora’s lawyers about the practice of extortion in other penal colonies in Chelyabinsk oblast had been handed over to the Department for Procedural Oversight of the region’s Investigative Committee.
