Hunger Striker in Lermontov Hospitalized

Seventy-five-year-old Mikhail Markus, a participant in the protests in the town of Lermontov, has been placed in intensive care after being on hunger strike for several days, an ambulance staffer told RIA Novosti on Monday 27 February. “We don’t know the exact diagnosis at present, doctors are working on him,” the news agency was told. 

A website in Lermontov that has been covering the protests reports that the reason for hospitalizing Mikhail Markus was a “sharp deterioration in blood sugar levels and a rise in blood pressure.” [Read more]
