Human rights defenders and civic activists on the lists of political prisoners: reports

A press conference entitled 'Are there no political prisoners in Russia?' was held at the Independent Press Centre in Moscow on 15 February 2012. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin answers this question in the affirmative, whereas human rights activists and members of the opposition give exactly the opposite answer. 

Those participating in the press conference included the Moscow Helsinki Group chair Liudmila Alekseyeva, Executive Director of the Movement For Human Rights Lev Ponomarev, and journalist Olga Romanova, one of the people who have compiled lists of political prisoners. On 8 February Romanova and State Duma Deputy Gennady Gudkov delivered the list to the Presidential Administration. [Read more]
