Medvedev Promises to Take in Hand the Persecution of Environmental Activists in Krasnodar Region

On 15 March a session of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights dedicated to issues of environmental security and protection of the environment was convened in Samara. At this meeting, held under the chairmanship of Dmitry Medvedev, the President was informed on three separate occasions of the outrage being perpetrated in Krasnodar region with regard to environmental activists Suren Gazaryan, Evgeny Vitishko and the lawyer Viktor Dutlov. 

The issue was initially raised by the Council's chair Mikhail Fedotov, who informed Medvedev "of the extremely dubious accusations" brought against the activists of "beating up security guards and causing damage worth 120 thousand roubles to two sections of a fence."  [Read more]
