Judge Karpov has banned Alexei Navalny from using post and other means of communication. Only close relatives are allowed to visit him.

"It is clearly unlawful prosecution. They are using any opportunity to restrict my right to legal protection. Because I now cannot inform the press about falsifications. But my employees at the Fund for the Fight Against Corruption will do this, as well as run my blog. They will continue to fight." - journalist Yulia Polukhina quoted Aleksei Navalny in Novaya gazeta.

"If people visit Navalny's flat they can speak to his wife. If Navalny violates these conditions, then the restrictive measures against him may become stricter"

In an interview with Interfax the head of Moscow Helsinki Group, Ludmila Alekseeva, said "it is prosecution for dissent,... for beliefs and for freedom of speech".

Amnesty International also condemned the sentence against Navalny. Head of the Russian branch of the organisation, Sergei Nikitin, told Interfax "All this does is to show the depressing state of the human rights situation in Russia"'.
