Journalist Held for Three Months on False Charge in Pre-Trial Detention Centre

There have always been miscarriages of justice, but in the case of former RIA Novosti journalist Oleg Leontiev from Krasnoyarsk, the number of errors made, points stretched and careless conclusions drawn by the Investigative Committee suggests malicious intent on the part of the authorities towards the journalist. 

According to Ilya Labunsky, a friend of Oleg Leontiev, he first attracted the attention of the authorities on 17 December when, after helping a friend move furniture into a flat, he made his way to a rally outside Krasnoyarsk City Hall on his newspaper's instructions. The next day he was visited by police officers who said they were investigating a robbery. As reported by Labunsky in his LiveJournal blog, they asked the journalist several questions and then left. It turned out later that the "dirty cops" were trying to check whether Leontiev had an alibi. [Read more]
