Patrushev Proposes “Reasonable Regulation” of the Russian Internet

Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, has said he believes the introduction of “reasonable regulation” of the Internet to be a possibility. 

“Attempts to suppress communication among people is in principle counterproductive and even immoral. However, the use of the Internet by criminals and terrorist groups must not be ignored,” Patrushev said. “Reasonable regulation, of course, must also be introduced in Russia, as has already been done in the United States, China and many other countries,” Patrushev noted.
