The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has prepared a report which states that the second highest number of applications to developed countries for asylum in the world is from Russian citizens.

In second place on the list are Russian citizens who in 2013 made 39,800 applications for asylum to 44 developed countries, the number having risen by 76% in one year. The most popular countries amongst Russians are Germany and Poland.

According to Deutsche Welle, for example, in Germany alone most of its refugees in 2013 came from Russia and Serbia; 14,900 applications.

“Most refugees are from countries in which the situation is unstable” the report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees emphasises.
