Stop the Violations against Udaltsov

A public appeal by human rights defenders and civic activists published on the website of Left Front calls for Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov to be allowed to “continue his activities unhindered”. 

“Over the past year Sergei Udaltsov has been subjected to administrative imprisonment on ten occasions, he has been detained several times each month merely for expressing his views as a citizen,” the appeal also states. Among those who have signed the text are Lev Ponomarev, leader of the Movement for Human Rights, Ludmila Alekseeva, head of the Moscow Helsinki Group, Sergei Davidis and Ilya Yashin, members of the political council of Solidarity, Sergei Kosyakin, coordinator of the Left Front, and Evgeniya Chirikova, leader of the Movement for the Defence of Khimki Forest. 

Authors of the appeal write: “Under the rule of the tandem of Putin and Medvedev on many occasions peaceful acts of civic protest have been, and continue to be, prevented, political and trade union activists have been persecuted, and the shoots of growth of civil society have been trampled underfoot.” [Read more]
